Record high demand for live scallops in the Korean market has led to a surge in prices in the Nemuro area of Hokkaido, making it difficult for local processing plants to purchase enough raw materials. Prices have more than doubled compared to last year, ranging from 635 yen to 785 yen per kilogram, and even exceeding 800 yen on some trading days. The increase in South Korea's demand, the end of the early scallop harvest in the Sea of Okhotsk, and the delay in the fishing season in the Gulf of Flames have concentrated market demand in the Nemuro area, pushing prices higher. This has brought significant challenges for local processors and uncertainty about whether market prices will stabilize.
