(Jeju=Yonhap News) Reporter Park Ji-ho = Jeju City announced on the 12th that it will begin full-scale institutional support for the early establishment of the honey grading system starting next year, based on the results of this year's pilot operation of the honey grading system. This year, a total of 34 drums of honey were graded, with participation from 6 beekeeping farms and 1 small-scale honey processing facility in the province. Jeju City plans to visit excellent beekeeping farms and small-scale honey processing facilities, including the Korean Bee Farmers' Association, in December to increase understanding of the honey grading system and to benchmark high-quality honey production systems and sales strategies. Furthermore, in 2026, the city intends to introduce incentives such as inspection fee support and grade-based production subsidies for participating farms to expand the production of 1+ grade honey and encourage early participation by farms in the system. The city plans to utilize the high-quality honey secured this time to develop a brand, establish a premium distribution network, and support productization in stages to establish a revenue model for high-value Jeju honey. Additionally, the city will encourage honey-producing farms to record and manage production history, including collection dates and locations, during the honey collection period to build a database of 1+ grade honey production information. jihopark@yna.co.kr
