Jeonbuk Province plans to transform its "K-Kim" industry, which leads the Hallyu food industry, into a global hub beyond being a key income source for the local economy. According to recent data from Jeonbuk Province, the representative variety of seaweed farming in Jeonbuk Province, laver, is a key item, accounting for 79.9% (33,254 tons) of the total aquatic product production and 63.6% (66.1 billion won) of the production value. In 2024, the export value of Jeonbuk's agricultural, forestry, and fishery products is 597 million dollars, of which the export value of laver (dried laver + seasoned laver) is 43.8 million dollars (7.4%). Expanding the production base and stabilizing fishery management Jeonbuk Province, in line with the growing demand for the laver industry, has been cooperating with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries since 2019 to expand the previously restricted new laver.
