The K-Ricebelt project, launched by South Korea, aims to enhance food security in Africa by boosting rice production in eight countries including Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Senegal, Cameroon, Uganda, and Kenya. This initiative focuses on providing climate-resilient rice varieties to small-scale farmers to help achieve zero hunger. In 2023, a pilot project in six African countries successfully produced 2,321 tonnes of rice seeds, exceeding its initial target. South Korea has committed to increasing the annual production to 10,000 tonnes by 2027, with an investment of over 100 billion won ($77 million) over the next four years. This effort is part of South Korea's broader commitment to playing a more active role in international affairs, specifically aimed at improving food security and rice yields across Africa.
