Although speculations about a new delay in the entry into force of the European Union's anti-deforestation regulation are mounting, for now the current schedule marks that on January 1st the regulation will become effective. This will mean that exporters sending products to that destination must certify that they do not come from fields deforested since 2020.
In the particular case of Argentina, what is at stake is the export of soy flour and beef. Gerardo Leotta, advisor to the ABC Consortium and researcher at Conicet, said that "the state is one of uncertainty" and that "there are still no definitive decisions on the matter."
However, he anticipated that two very important meetings are coming up that will define the issue. "They are on November 24th and December 15th in the European Union, where the authorities will decide which scenario will be adopted," he said.
