KKP cooperates with FAO to manage eel cultivation in Indonesia

My Farm — Eel is known as unagi and is one of the most sought-after dishes in Japanese restaurants around the world. Currently, eel cultivation still uses seeds from natural catches, even though most of the needs of eels have been met from cultivation. The survival rate of eel seeds is low so that continuous fishing in nature can make the eel population in their habitat threatened. In Indonesia, eel cultivation is widely developed in the mouth of the Cimandiri River, Sukabumi, West Java. The eel seeds produced from the area are distributed to local farmers and farmers throughout Indonesia. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) together with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and the Regional Government of Sukabumi Regency are working together to run the IFIsh project.
