Ecuador, the world's leading banana exporter, is hosting the twenty-first edition of 'Banana Time' in Guayaquil from October 23 to 25, bringing together representatives of the banana sector from Latin American countries to address challenges such as low prices in Europe, logistical security, and phytosanitary threats. The conference will focus on advances in biotechnology, agricultural practices, and sustainability, with a call for the European Union to respect the value of the product and collaborate with the sustainability of the industry. The banana industry is a significant contributor to the Ecuadorian economy, generating 250,000 direct jobs and more than $3 billion in annual sales in 2023, with the EU being the main destination for its exports.
