The National Fisheries Research Institute's Inland Aquaculture Research Center has expanded its scope to include advanced aquaculture technology, species improvement, conservation, and water resource monitoring. A study was initiated in 2013 to improve the genetic diversity and breeding efficiency of scented fish, a popular domestic aquaculture breed. This involved introducing Chinese scented fish with superior traits and producing superior seeds. The distributed seeds resulted in faster growth and improved marketability, reducing production costs by over 30%. The center also plans to establish a technology transfer system for seed production and distribution, and continues to promote the consumption of scented fish through the Scented Fish Festival and on-site technical support.
