Lima: Cochas comuneros held the traditional vicuña chaccu

In the heights of the Gorgor district, Cajatambo province, Lima region, the traditional chaccu of vicuñas was carried out, an ancestral practice that brought together the comuneros of Cochas, who managed to capture 364 specimens. Of this total, 169 vicuñas were sheared, highlighting the care of the animal as part of a sustainable use that guarantees its conservation. This ancestral activity reflects the deep connection between the local community and the vicuñas, wild animals highly valued for their fiber, considered the finest in the world. The activity, held on July 18, 19, and 20, was attended by the Directorate of Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs of the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRAL). The Tourist Chaccu is an activity promoted by the current management of the Regional Government of Lima, as part of the actions to revalue ancestral practices and energize experiential tourism in the region.
