In May, Australia saw a 21% increase in live sheep exports compared to April, reaching 95,820 head, despite being 26% lower than the five-year average. The majority of these exports were sent to Middle Eastern countries, including Kuwait, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Oman, in anticipation of the summer moratorium. Oman experienced the highest growth, importing 18,446 head, a 163% increase from April. Despite the decline in live sheep exports over the years, the Australian Live Exporters Council remains optimistic about the market's future, citing increased interest from Saudi Arabia, the world's largest importer of sheep.
