The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives in Thailand, Mananya Thaiset, has ordered the Department of Agriculture to increase inspections of vegetables, fruits, and durians for pesticide residues to build consumer confidence. The Department will randomly test over 3,000 samples from department stores and farmer plots in every region, ensuring they meet the standards set by the Ministry of Public Health. Additionally, efforts will be made to educate farmers on reducing the use of harmful chemicals and switching to safer production methods, with a focus on obtaining GAP and organic certifications. If any residue exceeds the safety standard, steps will be taken to trace the source and rectify the issue. Furthermore, the Director-General of the Department of Agriculture will oversee durian residue testing and assist entrepreneurs with export issues at Panplern Interfruit Export Co., Ltd. Durians for export must meet specific dry weight standards, and agricultural services and products in Thailand are expected to adhere to GMP Plus standards, including Covid-19 precautions.
