A research team from the Rural Development Administration's Agricultural Industry Management Division has recommended selecting 8 subtropical crops and 12 vegetables suitable for Korea's environment based on their three-year analysis of subtropical crop cultivation, which included mangoes. The research found that the cultivation area for these crops has been increasing annually, with mangoes being the most cultivated subtropical fruit in Korea, particularly in Jeju Island, Papaya in Gyeongnam, and Turmeric in Jeonnam. However, the cultivation areas for Yeoju and Turmeric have declined due to marketing difficulties and dependence on direct trading. The team highlighted the need to diversify subtropical crop production due to the frequent introduction and abandonment of these crops. They suggested 20 subtropical crops that could be suitable for Korea's environment, including mango, dragon fruit, papaya, and more.
