(Iksan=Yonhap News) Kim Jin-bang, Reporter = McDonald's Korea's newly launched 'Taste of Korea' project menu item 'Iksan Sweet Potato Mozzarella Burger' has become a hot topic on social media such as YouTube and Instagram, surpassing 500,000 sales just four days after its release.
According to Iksan City and McDonald's Korea on the 17th, sweet potato burger sales exceeded 500,000 units as of the weekend of the 13th. At the current pace, it is expected to surpass 1 million units this upcoming weekend.
The Iksan Sweet Potato Burger gained attention through mukbang influencers and consumer reviews on social media. Some videos have recorded over 1 million views, with thousands of new review videos being continuously updated.
Local figures such as Iksan Mayor Jeong Heon-yul and local Democratic Party lawmakers Han Byung-do and Lee Chun-seok have also competed to leave reviews on social media, promoting the Iksan Sweet Potato Burger.
Particularly, the promotional video produced by McDonald's Korea, featuring farmers from the sweet potato production area, has been praised for creating a sense of trust in the origin and ingredients.
Considering the sales speed, the 'Taste of Korea' project event is expected to close early.
This is the fastest sales pace among existing 'Taste of Korea' project menus, including the Changnyeong Garlic Burger in 2021, Boseong Green Pork Burger in 2022, Jindo Green Onion Cream Croquette Burger in 2023, and Jinju Red Pepper Cream Cheese Burger in 2024.
The 'Taste of Korea' project is a new menu development initiative using domestic ingredients to support local farms and regional economic revitalization, launched by McDonald's in 2021.
An Iksan City official stated, "If the current situation continues, the Iksan Sweet Potato Burger will likely be sold out during the event period" and added that "as the fifth menu in the 'Taste of Korea' project, some stores are recording unprecedented sales volumes, with the menu selling out after lunchtime."
