The Egyptian government has set the price for supplying sugar cane and beets at EGP 2,500 and EGP 2,400 respectively, in an effort to boost cultivation and productivity of these key crops. Hazem El-Menoufi, a member of the Foodstuffs Division, has proposed a range of measures to prevent a future sugar crisis, which include government plans to stabilize the sugar market, increase oversight of the market, and provide support for investment projects in the sugar industry. The government is also urged to ensure fair pricing for farmers, encourage them to supply the entire crop to the state, and limit sugar exports to protect the local market and keep local sugar affordable for consumers.
