Leader of the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA) and other European farm organisation leaders will meet with the new European Commissioner for Agriculture to express concerns about the EU-Mercosur Trade Agreement. The deal, which could allow an additional 99,000 tonnes of beef from South America to enter the EU tariff-free, has been met with opposition, particularly in Ireland and France. The farmers believe the deal could negatively impact the Irish beef and poultry sectors and undermine the quality of their products. They are calling on political leaders to support the beef sector and oppose the deal.
