In 2020, Mexico's watermelon production rose by 1.0% to 1,357 thousand tons, ranking it 11th globally as a producer with a 1.3% share and a TMAC of 7.2%. The country sold 733 thousand tons of watermelon abroad, becoming the second largest exporter, with the United States, Japan, and Canada being the main buyers. Sonora, Jalisco, Chihuahua, and Veracruz were the leading states in production.
