Mexico will allow pork imports from the UK for the first time

Mexico is the second market, after the Dominican Republic in Latin America, to allow pork imports from the UK. Mexico currently has a great demand for high-quality pork. In 2020, the UK's pork exports to 75 markets around the world totaled more than £421 million. The UK Agricultural Development Board forecasts UK crab pork exports to the Mexican market will reach £50 million in the first five years. This is a success for the UK food and beverage export industry, following the success of beef exports to the US; Poultry, beef and lamb exports to Japan and pork exports to Taiwan. UK Foreign Secretary Defra George Eustice said, "It's great that a market is open for high-quality, high-margin UK products. Access to the Mexican market, given the huge demand for high-quality pork, will be a big driver for UK livestock industries.
