The Mexican government, in collaboration with industry and academia, is taking steps to safeguard the livestock sector from external diseases, enhancing inspection at ports, airports, and borders. With a focus on highly pathogenic avian influenza and African swine fever, efforts include increasing surveillance, reinforcing clinical inspection, regionalization, and traceability system implementation. Additionally, there is a call for increased pork consumption campaigns to capitalize on the safety and flavor of pork, as Mexico becomes one of the top pork producers globally. This comes amidst challenges such as environmental and economic difficulties, but supported by free trade agreements and despite phyto- and zoosanitary threats, inflation, price drops, and supply chain issues.
