Brazil's Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, and Uruguay's Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, Fernando Mattos, have agreed to enhance cooperation in sanitary defense and health surveillance at their border. This includes a biannual technical exchange to monitor sanitary and phytosanitary regulations. They also discussed strengthening production and health surveillance systems to prevent the introduction of diseases such as African Swine Fever, and Uruguay's request for Brazilian support in eradicating a parasitic disease caused by the bich fly. The ministers also addressed the trade of agricultural products between the two countries and their position in international agricultural negotiations.
