Ministry of Agriculture intensifies monitoring against Fusariosis in banana plantations in São Paulo, Brazil

Last week, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) resumed activities to control fusariosis of the tropical breed 4 banana (Foc R4T) in the State of São Paulo. Since the end of 2018, when the warning about the risk of the disease in Brazil was issued, monitoring has been constant. Although the country does not yet have confirmed cases of this quarantine plague, it has already been identified in neighboring countries such as Colombia, Peru and Venezuela. Agronomist and phytopathologist Wilson da Silva Moraes, from the Mapa region in Sorocaba, visited eight properties this week and collected four samples. The visits covered areas in São Bento do Sapucaí and Ubatuba in the Taubaté region, Aguaí and Santo Antônio do Jardim in the São João da Boa Vista region, and two properties in Campinas.
