The Ministry of Agriculture in Indonesia is predicting a decrease in the country's beef deficit in 2022, due to an anticipated increase in production and a slight decrease in consumption. Beef/buffalo meat production is expected to rise to 436.7 thousand tons from 415 thousand tons last year, while total demand for the year is projected to slightly decrease from 696.9 thousand tons in 2021 to 695.4 thousand tons in 2022. The Ministry has noted challenges in cattle farming in Indonesia, such as the lack of extensive cultivation and high transportation costs, which have contributed to the country's dependence on beef imports. However, the Ministry has also supported central areas by providing refrigeration facilities for perishable food to improve food management and storage.
