The Ministry of Trade in Indonesia has reported a significant surge in demand for Indonesian durian in China, with expectations to reach 8 billion US dollars by 2024. The demand for durian, a leading fruit commodity, has been on a steady rise, with 2022 witnessing a 2 billion US dollar demand, anticipated to increase to 6 billion US dollars in 2023. To meet this growing demand, Indonesia is focusing on enhancing the quality and variety of durians, particularly the local montong variety. Besides durian, Indonesia is also exporting other exotic fruits like pineapples, bananas, avocados, and mangosteens to countries including Japan and Australia, contributing to the country's booming fruit export sector.
