In 2024, the Marine Management Organization (MMO) distributed £30 million in grants to 535 projects aimed at supporting the UK's fishing and seafood industry, as reported. This initiative, funded by the government and the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, aimed to boost sustainability and benefit coastal communities. The Fisheries and Seafood Scheme (FaSS), a key component of this effort, was highlighted for its support of the catching, processing, and aquaculture sectors, as well as the marine environment. Although the scheme is currently closed, it is set to reopen in 2025. Additionally, the MMO's efforts included the UK Seafood Fund – Infrastructure Scheme, which focused on modernizing the industry, and the new Pollack Compensation Scheme, designed to aid those affected by the bycatch-only pollack fishery in the South-West.
