Modern cherry packing in San Nicolás will generate 420 jobs

After completing an investment of US$9.47 million ($8.8 billion), the company Ingeniería y Construcciones Mañío SpA inaugurated this Tuesday the facilities of its subsidiary Frigorífico San Nicolás, a modern cherry packing plant that will begin operating this season, during which it is expected to process and export between 3,500 and 4,000 tons of fruit, in alliance with the multinational Dole. The plant is located in the premises previously used by Driscolls, in San Nicolás, and will meet the need for greater cold storage infrastructure in the region to receive the growing production of cherries, since many farmers in Ñuble must send their fruit to plants in the Maule and O’Higgins regions, a journey that affects the quality and post-harvest life of the fruit.
