Moldova will extend restrictions on agricultural imports from Ukraine for another six months

On December 30, the Moldovan government ordered to extend the licensing of imports of wheat, corn and sunseed for another six months – until June 30, 2025, Newsmaker reports. As the government clarified, this step is aimed at protecting local farmers and maintaining stability in the domestic market. The licensing was introduced in October 2023 and, according to the government, it helped prevent an oversupply of imported products at lower prices and would have reduced the cost of local products. As of early December, Moldova has sufficient stocks of wheat, corn, and sunflower to cover domestic needs for the coming months. This includes 290 thousand tons of wheat, 662 thousand tons of corn and 249 thousand tons of sunseed.
