The General Comptroller's Office of the Republic initiated a concurrent control service with the Environmental Evaluation and Fiscalization Organism (OEFA) in Moquegua, following reports of the alleged contamination of the Titire and Coralaque rivers, located in the provinces of Mariscal Nieto and General Sánchez Cerro. As part of the multisectoral operation being carried out in the region, the Comptroller's Office moved to the populated center of Titire, in the district of Carumas, and together with inspectors from OEFA Moquegua, they verified the intense yellow coloration of the Titire river, which would indicate a high concentration of heavy metals coming from the mining unit located in the upper part of the area. The yellowish-colored waters affect the Titire town, then flow into the Coralaque river, affecting the Chojata district, and finally, emptying into the Tambo river, impacting farmers in the Islay province in the Arequipa region.
