China has expanded its cultivation of the 'autumn heart' grape, a variety originally from Japan, and exported it to Vietnam at a much cheaper price than the Japanese version, making it popular in the Vietnamese market. Initially priced at 2-2.3 million VND/kg, the grape is now sold at around 150,000 VND/kg, still cheaper than the Japanese version. The Vietnamese government is conducting food safety inspections on these grapes and has found one sample to have pesticide residues exceeding Vietnam's limits. The Plant Protection Department is implementing a monitoring program and hopes for local participation to improve traceability.
