Turkey has seen a significant influx of foreign currency, exceeding 15 million dollars, from the export of sea snails to Far East countries over the past 20 months. This alternative source of income is particularly important for fishermen in the Eastern Black Sea region, who have been facing challenges in their traditional bonito fishing due to low crop yields, market stagnation, and high courtyard prices. The export volume has decreased this year due to weather conditions and restrictions in Trabzon, with the main importers being China and Japan. The sea snail's shell is a valuable component in the cosmetic industry, making it a key product in the maritime economy.
