An edible oil sales festival was held from January 4 to 6, with participation from 11 oil mills and the sale of over 40,000 tons of edible oil. The festival is part of a larger plan to reduce import of edible oil and promote healthier local oils like peanut oil, sesame oil, and sunflower oil. The festival saw peanut oil sold at 17,000 Myanmar Kyats per ton, sunflower oil at 20,000 Myanmar Kyats per ton, and sesame oil at 18,000 Myanmar Kyats per ton. With a domestic demand of about 100,000 tons per month, the festival is set to be held monthly to showcase the self-sufficiency of domestic edible oil and reduce reliance on imported edible palm oil.
