In the first half of 2024, Morocco achieved a milestone in its blueberry export business to Eastern Europe, recording a historic high of 2.1 thousand tons, surpassing the previous year's totals. The main recipients of these exports were Poland, Estonia, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic, with Poland being the largest importer. This growth comes after a challenging year, 2023, due to the El Niño phenomenon. The total blueberry imports by the four leading Eastern European countries reached over 25,000 tonnes in the first half of 2024, nearing the imports of the entire previous year. Morocco's export growth indicates a strong demand for its blueberries in the region, and its position is further bolstered by re-exports through countries like Spain, the Netherlands, and Germany. This dynamic showcases the potential for off-season consumption in Eastern Europe and positions Morocco as a key supplier in the global soft fruit market.
