Tridge summary

Poultry farmers have stated that the recent price increase is due to rising production costs.

It is understood that due to the increase in feed prices, transportation costs, and various daily expenses, the number of poultry farmers has decreased, leading to a reduction in the supply available in the market.

In the first week of October, the price for broilers leaving the farm was only about 10,000 Myanmar kyat per viss, while in the first week of November, it had risen to 16,350 Myanmar kyat per viss.

As of November 18, although prices have slightly fallen to about 13,350 Myanmar kyat per viss, retail prices have not decreased.

In the recent consumer retail market, chicken prices have risen to 26,000 Myanmar kyat per viss for chicken legs and 30,000 Myanmar kyat per viss for chicken breasts. Due to the increase in living expenses for food, people who find it difficult to balance their income and expenses have stated that purchasing meat has become more difficult.

A citizen from Yangon said, "It's not just chicken, all meat and fish are increasing in price, almost every day there is a new price, and now even buying chicken heads and bones to eat is not easy."

Despite the high retail prices of chicken, the current price for broilers leaving the farm is only 12,500 to 13,350 Myanmar kyat per viss. For other types of chickens, Cornish chickens are 15,500 Myanmar kyat per viss, egg-laying chickens are 14,000 Myanmar kyat per viss, and free-range chickens are 19,000 Myanmar kyat per viss.

As for the resale prices of middlemen, broilers are 13,500 to 14,300 Myanmar kyat per viss; for other types of chickens, Cornish chickens are 16,500 Myanmar kyat per viss, egg-laying chickens are 15,000 Myanmar kyat per viss, and free-range chickens are 25,000 Myanmar kyat per viss.

The Myanmar Edible Oil Mills Association had warned in September that the rising price of soybean meal used in animal feed could lead to an increase in the prices of meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products for public consumption.
