Black pepper - the item likened to "black gold" has made Vietnam a top global producer and exporter. According to preliminary statistics from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, from January to July this year, Vietnam exported 145,046 tons of various types of black pepper, bringing in 988 million USD. Of this, there were 124,271 tons of black pepper, valued at an estimated 820.3 million USD; white pepper reached 20,775 tons, valued at 167.7 million USD. Compared to the same period in 2024, the amount of black pepper exported decreased by 12% but the value increased by 29.7%. Conversely, businesses also imported 31,472 tons of black pepper, valued at approximately 195.4 million USD. Compared to the figure of 19,857 tons and a value of 80.3 million USD in the same period of 2024, the amount of imported black pepper in the first seven months of this year increased sharply by 58.5%, while the value surged by 143.4% (2.4 times).
