New History, September Rice Deflation for the First Time Since 2021
Rice is no longer a driver of inflation, but rather a support for price stability.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a significant achievement in the dynamics of national food prices. For the first time since 2021, rice experienced a deflation of 0.13 percent in September 2025. This record breaks a four-year consecutive trend (2021–2024) where rice had always been a contributor to monthly inflation during the same period. BPS Deputy for Production Statistics, M Habibullah, referred to this rice deflation as a positive anomaly. This phenomenon occurred due to three main factors: a good harvest that increased rice supply, the utilization of old rice stocks in milling, and the abundant supply of rice in the market. "This rice deflation is not accidental.
