Vessels with mid-water and pelagic trawls are fishing in the South Kuril zone southeast of Shikotan Island. The sardine catch efficiency remains high, with some vessels catching up to 800 tons daily, resulting in a total catch of nearly 20,000 tons for the week, an 113% increase from the same period last year. However, the mackerel catch is down from last year. The saury catch has reached 145.3 thousand tons, surpassing the recommended level. Around 100 foreign vessels, primarily under the Chinese flag, are working in the open waters, while two Russian vessels are catching saury.
