Turkey's Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, has expressed the government's commitment to the Animal Husbandry Production Development Project, aimed at ensuring sustainable and affordable animal supply for producers and reducing the cost of red meat for consumers. The project's goals include a reduction in meat imports and combating animal diseases. Progress has been made in vaccinating cattle against foot-and-mouth disease, with a significant reduction in incidences, and a Genomic Test Center in Ankara will support breeders in improving livestock genetics. The project will also increase the number of breeding animals through a collaboration between TİGEM and the Meat and Milk Institution, with plans to provide calves from the breeding centers to family businesses at reasonable costs. This initiative is part of the government's efforts to ensure food supply security and support the agricultural sector.
