A startup company in Germany is partnering with local farmers to grow protein-rich peas and other meat substitutes, such as crickets and mealybug larvae, to meet the growing demand for vegan products. The company has received EU authorization to sell these products and plans to vertically integrate seeds and ready-to-eat vegan food. The first pea harvest is expected to yield around 300 to 400 tons, which will be processed into meat, fish, eggs, and milk substitutes. The company aims to reduce carbon emissions by utilizing local production and short transport routes.
