Russia is introducing new veterinary rules to prevent the spread of scrapie in sheep and goats from March 1, 2022, until March 1, 2028. Approved by the Ministry of Agriculture, the rules aim to minimize losses due to the disease, which affects the central nervous system of these animals. In the event of an outbreak, a long-term quarantine will be imposed, forbidding the movement of susceptible animals and the export of breeding rams and goats. The rules also prohibit feeding meat and bone meal to these animals to prevent infection.
