Costa Rica has recently expanded its international trade horizons by opening its pineapple market to New Zealand, a significant development announced by the country's Ministry of Agriculture and the State Phytosanitary Service. This move allows Costa Rica to join an elite group of the first six pineapple-producing nations permitted to export to New Zealand without a specific bilateral agreement, though it mandates that the pineapples be exported without their crowns and accompanied by a pest-free certification. With two Costa Rican companies already poised to take advantage of this new export opportunity, Costa Rica aims to bolster its position in the global pineapple market. The country, home to over 1,000 pineapple producers, 272 of whom are exporters, currently ships pineapples to 68 countries worldwide.
