The US Department of Defence (DoD) has abandoned its plans to fund lab-grown meat projects for military consumption following opposition from the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) and the cattle industry. The NCBA argued that the proposal undermined the quality of food provided to troops and could potentially cut into the market share of livestock producers. The industry has raised concerns about the safety and transparency of lab-grown meat and emphasized the benefits of naturally produced beef. The NCBA insists that livestock producers can satisfy the nutritional requirements of the military and emphasizes the importance of maintaining the integrity of food provided to servicemembers.
