In March, Vietnam witnessed a significant surge in chili exports, reaching 1,523 tons with a value of 4.2 million USD, a 72.3% increase from February 2024, primarily to China and Laos. By the end of March, the total exports for the year amounted to 3,141 tons, generating 8.1 million USD, marking a 17.6% increase in volume and a 52.8% increase in value compared to the previous year. The average export price rose by 28% to 2,610 USD/ton. This growth is attributed to the doubled domestic price of chili, driven by high demand from markets like China and Korea. Vietnam's chili production is concentrated in provinces like Dong Thap, An Giang, and Tien Giang, among others, with a total cultivation area of over 7,000 hectares and an annual output of approximately 100,000 tons, in addition to about 60,000 tons from the Central Highlands.
