Economist Slaviša Rakočević stated that the inflation of food and consumer goods prices has indeed reached a record high, but workers' wages have not increased accordingly. This will lead to two possibilities: either the consumption structure will be forced to adjust, or consumption in certain areas will directly shrink.
Jovano Vasiljević, a representative of the Federation of Consumer Associations of the Republika Srpska, pointed out that the continuous price increases, especially for food, have caused consumers to start reducing their daily spending. Compared to the current pension and wage levels, the current prices are exorbitantly high. He believes that the high price issue can only be addressed by government intervention, but he also criticized the government for obtaining more revenue from high prices through value-added tax.
