Bolivia is experiencing a significant increase in the prices of essential food items such as beef, chicken, and pork, with chicken seeing the highest increase of up to 76%. This is due to low production in certain areas and fuel shortages. The country's economic crisis is worsened by a drop in gas production and limited supply of dollars for transactions. The Government, led by President Luis Arce, blames poor hydrocarbon policy management, international factors, and weather phenomena for the crisis. In response, the government has implemented measures such as banning the export of refined soybean oil and intervening in rice mills to control prices and ensure supply.
