In the 2023/24 marketing year, Indonesia imported a record 12.6 million tons of wheat, marking a 33.4% increase from the previous season. This surge includes significant imports from Australia and a nearly tenfold increase in Russian wheat imports. The rise in wheat imports is driven by its cost-effectiveness compared to rice and corn, and the Indonesian government's policy allowing only flour mills to import wheat. Additionally, demand for imported wheat flour grew by 44.7%, with Turkey being the primary supplier.
