Since the beginning of the transition in 1989 until the end of 2024, Bulgaria has received nearly 70 billion BGN in grants not only from European funds following our accession to the European Union in 2007. This is indicated in an analysis by the Institute for Market Economics, which provides a detailed view of the sectors of the economy and social life that have been supported by foreign state and private organizations and funds. A large part of these 70 billion BGN has come through the EU's pre-accession funds and subsequently through operational programs. However, a number of European countries such as Switzerland, Norway, the USA, and others have also provided grants, so the grant funding received has increased over the years, and in the last decade, over half of the grants have been concentrated.
