(Jinju=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Jeong-hoon = On the 24th, Gyeongnam Province opened the "Gyeongnam Forest Bio Center" at the Forest Environment Research Institute in Ibanseong-myeon, Jinju City.
The province built the Forest Bio Center with 13 billion won in national funds secured by being selected for the "Smart Forest Bio Innovation Growth Hub Creation" project led by the Korea Forest Service in 2020, and an additional 7 billion won in provincial funds.
The Korea Forest Service supported the construction of Forest Bio Centers in four locations across the country, including Chungbuk, Jeonnam, Gyeongnam, and Gangwon.
The Gyeongnam Forest Bio Center, located in the southern region, supports research and industrialization in the field of forest bio, focusing on traditional medicine and anti-aging.
The Gyeongnam Forest Bio Center, which spans three floors, is equipped with laboratories, office spaces for corporate leasing, conference rooms, startup incubation facilities, over 50 types of experimental equipment, two smart greenhouses, and a production area (10.3 hectares).
It will carry out research on functional materials using forest life resources, support startups to improve the income of forestry workers, and develop products utilizing forest life resources with local bio companies.
