(Pyeongchang=Yonhap News) Reporter Im Bo-yeon = The 8th Pyeongchang Cold Land Kimchi Festival, Pyeongchang's representative autumn festival, opened from the 5th to the 17th at the Odaecheon Festival Site in Jinbu-myeon.
The Pyeongchang Cold Land Kimchi Festival has established itself as a genuine local festival where visitors can experience the taste and quality of Pyeongchang's cold land cabbage, with about 40,000 people visiting and 190 tons of kimchi cabbage consumed during last year's 10-day festival.
The kimchi cabbage used in the festival is entirely produced in Pyeongchang's cold land, and it is characterized by its ability to maintain a crisp texture for a long time without becoming soft easily.
The cost for a 10kg kimchi cabbage experience is 68,000 won, a 7kg altare kimchi experience is 70,000 won, and a 10kg premium cabbage kimchi experience is 78,000 won.
The premium cabbage kimchi experience, introduced for the first time this year, uses cabbage pickled with deep-sea water salt.
Participants in the kimchi experience can directly mix the kimchi on-site and take it home.
Additionally, to alleviate the burden on participants traveling from Seoul by KTX, on-site delivery services are available, increasing participant satisfaction.
Festival participation reservations can be made through the official website (www.gimjang700.co.kr) or by phone (☎033-336-4000). On-site applications on the day are also possible, but priority is given to those who have made reservations.
Pyeongchang County Mayor Sim Jae-guk said on the 5th, "It is an opportunity to create special memories with family by directly experiencing the kimchi culture and the excellence of Pyeongchang's cold land cabbage, which cannot be easily experienced in the city," and expressed hope that many people will visit and enjoy the warm winter kimchi culture this year.
