(Yeongdong=Yonhap News) Reporter Park Byeong-gi = The century-old pear trees in the Yeongdong Fruitland Theme Park in Yeongdong County, North Chungcheong, have borne delicious fruit this year as well.

According to Yeongdong County on the 21st, the 20 pear trees here are of the 'Singo' variety, which were planted around 1910.

Yeongdong County acquired ownership of the pear trees in 2008 when it purchased a 693 square meter pear orchard from a farm that had been managed by three generations of a family as a park site.

Although these trees are over 100 years old, they bloom with white flowers every spring and bear around 50 pears per tree.

Yeongdong County harvests these pears for promotional and experiential use.

A county official said, "Although the harvest was somewhat reduced due to frequent rain compared to previous years, this year too, sweet and crunchy pears have ripened abundantly," and added, "We will take more careful care of the pear trees, which symbolize the nation's largest fruit production area."

The site of Yeongdong Fruitland Theme Park was traditionally called 'Baemogol' because many pears were produced there.
