The Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Erbol Karashukeev, has outlined the ministry's strategy for import substitution from 2021 to 2025. The strategy, which is part of the National Project, aims to increase labor productivity by 2.5 times, make the country self-sufficient in basic food products, double agricultural exports, and increase the income of 1 million rural residents. The ministry will focus on replacing imported items like poultry meat, sausages, cheeses, apples, sugar, and fish with domestic products. By 2024, the ministry aims to provide 100% of these products, except for sugar, domestically and to reach 80% for sugar. The strategy also involves forming seven ecosystems around large investment projects to involve at least 350 thousand farmers and households in the production of high-value final products.
