From April 15 to 21, Russia's agricultural watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, permitted the import of 4.8 million eggs from Azerbaijan, without reporting any issues with quality or regularity. Since the start of the year, Russia has imported 29.3 million eggs from Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Turkey, due to high domestic prices and shortages. These imports are duty-free, with a maximum annual quote of 1.2 billion units. The Ministry of Agriculture is working with domestic manufacturers to increase production and has asked retailers to lower markups. Despite these efforts, the price of eggs in Russia has surged, with a dozen now costing over 100, in some cases as high as 150.
