Thailand's dairy sector is located primarily in the central, northern, and northeastern regions, with a total of 24,229 dairy farmers and 811,756 heads of dairy cattle as of May 2020. The country produced 1.29 million tons of raw milk in 2018 and is projected to produce 1.42 million tons in 2022. However, domestic raw milk supply is unable to meet the country's demand, with most domestic milk supply being used for ready-to-drink milk and school milk. The country's main dairy exports include pasteurized and UHT milk, condensed milk, evaporated milk, ice cream, drinking yogurt, yogurt, and butter, with ASEAN countries being the main export markets. Due to the reliance on imported dairy products for local production, the value of dairy product imports has grown at a CAGR of 2.3% since 2010. Chulalongkorn University is collaborating with government agencies and private entities to establish a research and technology transfer center to improve milk production and quality.
